SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY

Prof. Dr. Christoph Hoeschen, Professor for Medical Technology Systems and Managing Director of the Institute for Medical Technology has been awarded the title of SPIE Fellow. This high honour is awarded to particularly deserving members of the "International society for optics and photonics" SPIE for achievements to date. Prof. Hoeschen has worked for almost 15 years on the organising committee of the SPIE conference "Physics of Medical Imaging", which he chaired as the first European for a total of 3 years. The SPIE Medical Imaging Symposium is his scientific home, emphasises the award winner. He and his colleagues regularly presented research work there, especially on new imaging approaches with ionising radiation, on image quality measurement and on dosimetry. In addition, Prof. Hoeschen has been an associate editor of the Journal of Medical Imaging published by SPIE for over 6 years. In addition, he has been involved in the SPIE Career Development Program, has organised various workshops for SPIE or has been an invited speaker at such workshops.

We are delighted to announce that the postdoctoral researcher Dr.-Ing. Melanie Fachet received the 2021 Teaching Award of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. This prize was given to her as a recognition of her outstanding commitment to university teaching in the field of medical technology and her successful approach in creating a close connection between theory and current issues in research and industry using interactive and digital teaching concepts.

Two new members, Jing Ma, MSc in behavioral ecology, and Forough Jafarian, MSc in medical physics, have just joined our chair. Jing Ma is going to work as a scientific coordinator of the EURAMED rocc-n-roll project, which is an EU project aiming at proposing an integrated and coordinated European approach to research and innovation in medical applications of ionizing radiation and related radiation protection based on stakeholder consensus and existing activities in the field.

Forough Jafarian will be working on SINFONIA project, a project in partnership with 14 international partners from 8 countries aiming at radiation risk appraisal for detrimental effects from medical exposure during management of patients with lymphoma or brain tumors.
